Brief Overview:

The RBI has reduced the CRR and SLR exemption period for eligible fresh FCNR(B) deposits and NRE term deposits with the cut-off date being shortend from 30th September 2026 to 31st August 2026. Banks can avail these reserve requirement exemptions only for qualifying deposits mobilized up to the revised date.

Similarly, RBI has curtailed the temporary relaxation under deposit interest rate directions changing the cut-off date from 30th September 2026 to 31st August 2026 regarding (i) withdrawal of the interest rate ceiling on eligible FCNR(B) deposits; and (ii) the relaxation relating to interest rates on eligible NRE deposits.
