New Products for Bond Platforms

New Products for Bond Platforms

Brief Overview:

Online bond platform providers (“OBPPs”) can now offer two more categories of products on their platforms: (i) products, securities and services regulated by the International Financial Services Centres Authority, and (ii) capital gains tax-saving bonds issued under section 54EC of the Income Tax Act, 1961 (now section 85 of the Income Tax Act, 2025).

The changes are effective from 14th August 2026.

Takeaways:

The OBPPs shall now be able to target and onboard a wider client / investor base given SEBI has now permitted OBPPs to offer wider range of products. This enables investors to diversify their investments across multiple asset classes via the OBPPs.

The circular has been issued by SEBI after taking into consideration the feedback received on its consultation paper dated 5th May 2026.
